TRIATHLON - EDUCATION, WELLNESS & OUTREACH
Dear TFT Students and Parents,

We are excited to share with you a new opportunity that we are offering to our The First Tee of Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky Birdie and Eagle students. The TFTGCNKY Triathlon is an extension of last summer's theme of "Striving for Personal Excellence", and it offers the students a way to strive beyond the golf course to education, wellness and outreach. Awards, trophies and special recognition will be given to those students who complete the Triathlon.

The first leg of the Triathlon is reading. We have compiled book lists by age level that not only have a message that goes along with our mission of promoting character development, but also are just great reads. As we all know there are few better ways to learn about life than through reading good books. Students may read books from their own age level or earn extra points by reading up a level or from the starred list.

Leg number two is wellness. Fitness and nutrition are two areas where today's young people are falling short. Our wellness challenge is to get them thinking about taking care of their bodies through diet and exercise. We will not suggest special diets, but we will challenge the students to cut down on unhealthy food and drink. We realize that some students participate in sports that keep them physically active 5 days a week; but there are others who are not involved and who could use a guide to help them get active. In addition to an exercise plan we will challenge students to cut down on TV watching, X-Box, etc, to explore healthier ways to spend their free time.

Our third and final leg is outreach or service. The First Tee will offer some service opportunities within the chapter, but for the most part students will be challenged to reach out in their own communities, through church and through school to find ways to serve. We want students to realize that each one of them has something special to offer to someone else and to get into the habit of helping and serving.

Students who participate in the Triathlon are encouraged to set goals as they look through the spreadsheet of book choices, review the wellness page, and consider how much time they believe they have to serve. We will not ask them to submit these to us, but merely to use them as their own personal guide and encouragement. In order to participate students must submit the attached entry form to: Melissa Briner, 4747 Playfield Lane, Cinti. 45226, or email me at melissa@thefirstteegcnky.com by Thursday, February 11.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Impact, partner and develop.  These three words were chosen by The First Tee to define their organization and they have certainly lived by those words over the years.
